Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD)

MLD is a gentle, rhythmic and precise massage technique that is used in the treatment and reduction of edemas and for tissue and systemic detoxification. This technique speeds removal of metabolic wastes, excess fluid, toxins, bacteria, large proteins, and foreign substances from the tissues. This therapy is most often used to relieve the lymphedema experienced after breast surgery and lymph node removal. Lymphedema can be a debilitating, lifelong issue, but using MLD combined with bandaging &/or compression garments and patient teaching it can be easily controlled and maintained.

MLD is also helpful at reducing pain, swelling and recovery time after sprains, strains, surgeries and strokes. During your initial consult, you and your therapist will develop a treatment/teaching plan that will work with your schedule. Your doctor may prescribe this treatment for you so that you can be reimbursed by your health insurance provider.

Therapeutic Massage

This form of therapy is for those suffering from chronic muscle pain and dysfunction. Before and during the session your therapist will discuss with you any physical issues you may be experiencing and then assess for areas of tension and/or imbalance. We use combined techniques from many different modalities to facilitate change in that tissue to promote healing and deep relaxation throughout the body. Your therapist may also make suggestions for lifestyle changes, as well as teach you exercises you can do for maintenance. Some of the techniques used during this treatment may include: muscle/tendon frictioning, ice/heat therapy, myofascial release, active and passive stretching and trigger point therapy as well as relaxation strokes to calm and reset the nervous system.

Myofacial Therapy

The fascia is a continuous web of connective tissue that extends from just below the surface of the skin all the way to the bone and back. It provides shape, strength and mobility to every part of our bodies. Myofascial work is primarily concerned with the fascia that surrounds and forms the muscles. This technique requires near constant interaction on the part of both client and therapist. Using sustained parallel pressure, long, deep stretching strokes and focused breathing, the therapist and client work together to release fascial restrictions. The results are an increased freedom of movement, restored functionality and flexibility.

Fees

Relaxation Massage

The primary intent of this massage is deep relaxation and stress reduction. You may discuss briefly with your therapist any areas of concern before beginning your session. This type of massage is usually a full body treatment. Little interaction is required on your part except to let us know if you would like anything done differently. Your therapist will use soft to deep gliding massage strokes using an oil or cream with just enough pressure to relax the body without doing any specific muscle therapy. Just close your eyes, breathe deeply and drift off.

Structural Integration Therapy

Structural Integration is based on the work of Dr. Ida Rolf (Rolfing). This is a series based therapy that realigns and balances the endless web of fascia to help the body find support and lift within it's gravitational field. This rebalancing is accomplished through systematic manipulations that loosen and reorganize the fascial tissues surrounding the viscera, muscles and joints. The entire body is addressed in the 7 and 10 session formats and extra time is spent re-organizing long standing problem areas. There can also be deeply hidden emotional issues that arise with this intensive work and your therapist will be there to help guide you gently through these. After a structural integration session, you not only stand taller, look better, and move with greater ease, but also have more vitality and an enhanced sense of psychological well being. This therapy can be done by single session for problem areas or in a series of 7 or 10 sessions for the entire body. “Tune-up” work is recommended after 6 months.

Reiki/Energy Balancing

Reiki is an energetic healing practice that utilizes hands-on touch and focused visualization. It aims to balance and amplify energy on the physical, emotional, and spiritual planes. Reiki is based on ancient Tibetan Buddhist teachings. The Reiki practitioner acts as a channel for accessing the universal life energy. Your therapist will use Reiki to help balance your energy to promote healing as well as teach you how to do this healing practice for yourself. This therapy can be combined with relaxation massage as well.

Fees

Reflexology

On the feet there can be found a map of the entire body. In this treatment your therapist will assess the “reflex points” representing different areas of the body for stagnant energy and work to release them through deep manipulation. This is a little more intense than the regular foot massage experienced during a relaxation treatment, but quite relaxing in the end.
